I’m Still Puzzled As To Why We Let This Man Leave

|

It’s fair to say that, so far, the World Cup hasn’t really got me sat on the edge of my seat with excitement.

Okay, the 5-0 win Russia inflicted on Saudi Arabia, in the opening game, was entertaining and there was some drama when Iran scored an injury time winner to beat Morocco.

But, last night, the competition really did take off with the thrilling 3-3 draw between Portugal and Spain.

Furthermore, it further convinced me what a foolish decision Chelsea made last summer when they decided to sell Diego Costa.

Although, last night, Cristiano Ronaldo was the star of the show with a thrilling hat-trick, including an exquisite late free-kick to ensure Portugal got a share of the spoils, it was the display of Costa that had me drooling.

Costa, on the night, netted a brace of goals.

The first was typical Diego, chasing a long ball, using his physical presence to hustle a defender, controlling the ball with poise, shifting it from right-to-left before then drilling a low shot into the corner of the net, a superb goal.

The second, from close range, emphasised the unique ability that Costa has when it comes to being in the right place at the right time when the ball was played into the six-yard area there was Costa using his experience, to guide the ball into the net despite being under immense pressure from a defender.

Why, oh why did we sell him?

Boy, on the evidence of last night you can see how much we miss him.
