It Could Be An Early Departure For Our Midfield Maestro

|

Last night, at Stamford Bridge, Cesc Fabregas was given a rare start, by Maurizio Sarri, in the Europa League Group L fixture against PAOK Salonika.

Fabregas, 31-years-of-age, was asked to play the midfield role Sarri usually utilises Jorginho in.

The Spaniard went on to show, although perhaps we should point out that the opposition was far from top quality, he still has the ability to become the focal point of the side when it comes to creating chances for others, with his unique ability to spot the decisive pass.

However, it seems that Fabregas’ time with Chelsea could be coming to a rapid end.

Although we expected the Spaniard to bid farewell to the club come the end of the season, it appears that a transfer could be on the cards as early as the opening of the January transfer window.

The Italian news source, calciomercato, continues to peddle speculation that talks have already started between Chelsea and AC Milan, talks which would see a transfer concluded in January.

For Chelsea, the chance to sell Fabregas before the end of the season would see a financial reward.

However, with Maurizio Sarri having pointed out that he feels that only Jorginho and Fabregas, of the current squad, have the technical ability to play that holding midfield role in front of the back four, a sale could leave a gaping hole in a role that Sarri sees as influential if this season is to become a successful one.
