Italian Youngster Linked with Chelsea But Is He Any Better Than Those Coming Through Our System?

As the 2017 / 2018 season drifts to an inevitable close, transfer speculation is certain to ramp up in the coming weeks.

Today, Chelsea have been linked with the possible acquisition of a young Italian plying his trade in Serie A.

The youngster in question is Federico Chiesa, a 20-year-old who is able to play in a variety of positions, including winger, forward, attacking midfielder or central midfielder.

The speculation has originated in the news source calciomercato which also suggests that Chelsea face competition from Tottenham Hotspur for the player.

However, our source goes on to suggest that it could be a forlorn chase with Fiorentina in no rush to sell with the general manager, Pantaleo Corvino, quoted as having remarked,

“Chiesa? We are in a position where we can resist any temptation to sell.”

Clearly, a healthy financial position to be in and one many other clubs would be envious of.

Looking at the information relating to the player, we find that he has been at Fiorentina since the age of 11, as part of the youth set-up. When it comes to Serie A appearances, he’s made 60 but scored just 9 goals.

On the international front, he’s broken into the Italian side but has made just the 2 appearances without scoring.

At 20-years-of-age, he has a bright future in the game, but you have to ask yourselves, is he any better than the host of youngsters Chelsea are bringing through, the likes of Reuben Loftus-Cheek, Mason Mount etc?

I’d suggest probably not!
