The news that broke yesterday whereby Eden Hazard declared he would not be leaving Chelsea this summer and intends to hang around would have been welcomed by all Chelsea supporters.

Talking to the media vehicle RMC Sport and as reported by the BBC, Hazard is quoted as having remarked;

“I’m fine here. We’ll see what happens in a year or two.

“Leave this year? I will not leave. Everybody knows what I said after the World Cup – but I’m happy here.

“The transfer window in England is over. Clubs cannot sign players.

“It would be a little odd if they sell me now while they can’t recruit a replacement.”

However, whether Hazard remains at Stamford Bridge beyond next summer remains open to debate.

The Belgian has two-years of his current contract left and the club, according to the popular news source, the Sun, will not put pen-to-paper on a new deal, said to be worth £300,000 a week unless Chelsea have a successful season with the suggestion being that a top-four position and a return to the Champions League next season, could be the key to the Belgian hanging around for another attempt at winning the only honour he’s not won, at club level, before.

Can Chelsea duly oblige?
