News has broken late this afternoon that Nemanja Matic has left the club.

Although it was widely expected, following all the speculation in recent weeks, it still hurts that we`ve not only sold the player but to one of our biggest rivals.

Apparently, Chelsea, under the guidance of Roman Abramovic, let Matic go to a club of his choice as reward for his service in two Premier League title winning teams.

Matic has joined Manchester United on a 3-year deal with the option of a further year.

The fee is said to be around the £40 million mark and upon signing for Manchester United, Matic had a few words, just a few words mind you, for the Chelsea faithful, with the Serbian remarking,

‘I have enjoyed my time at Chelsea and would like to thank the club and the fans for their support.”

As for a favourite memory of Matic in a Chelsea shirt it has to be that stunning goal he scored against Tottenham Hotspur, in the FA Cup semi-final at Wembley Stadium.

Although I`m far from in agreement with regards to Chelsea letting Matic go to a Premier League title rival, perhaps I`ll take my hope from the fact Chelsea let Petr Cech go to Arsenal on a similar tag-line and Arsenal haven`t won the Premier League with Cech between the posts, have they!
