January Is The Right Time To Let Chelsea Stalwart Leave

|

There comes a time when everything comes to an end,

Time, as they say, waits for no man.

With Chelsea preparing to make the short trip to the London Stadium, to take on West Ham United, in a Premier League fixture, it looks very much as if a mainstay of the Chelsea side, since his arrival from Bolton Wanderers, Gary Cahill, will once again be conspicuous by his absence.

Cahill, now 33-years-of-age, has yet to play a single minute for Chelsea since Maurizio Sarri took over the managerial hot-seat, with the Italian preferring to utilise the services of David Luiz, Antonio Rudiger and Andre Christensen since switching from a back-three to a back-four.

Understandably, Cahill, who recently retired from international football, isn’t happy with the situation and talking to the media and as reported by the BBC, could be looking to leave, once the January transfer window closes, remarking:

“I have to take charge of my own future.

“I realise sometimes football doesn’t wait for people. Sometimes you have to make those decisions to keep going and progressing.

“Obviously the most important thing is the club, but I have to look at my situation.

“And if I’m sat doing what I’m doing at this moment in time, I just hope that the club will respect that when it comes to the time.”

Cahill has been a good servant to Chelsea Football Club, winning every domestic honour there is, including playing a stoic part in the Champions League Final triumph against Bayern Munich back in 2012.

However, Sarri is trying to build a younger side as Chelsea look to the future, at 33-years-of-age Cahill, despite still being a decent centre-back, doesn’t have time on his side.

Here at Vital Chelsea, we hope that the club do allow the player to leave, if that is his wish, in January and we’d certainly be interested to see which clubs clamour for his signature.

But is it a view you concur with?
