During his time at Chelsea, Jose Mourinho was never one to utilise the famous ‘kids` in Chelsea`s academy. His modus operandi was more suited to buying in players rather than developing the ones at his disposal.

At least that`s the view of Ruben Loftus-Cheek`s father, Trevor. In an interview that The Daily Mail carry he believes Mourinho didn`t help his sons development,

`Jose Mourinho held him back. He should have been playing. Everyone behind the scenes was asking: ‘why isn`t he playing? If Ruben was playing for Mauricio Pochettino, he`d have 70, 80, 90 first team appearances by now.`

Having picked up the man-of -the-match award following his full England debut against Germany, the midfielder has had his profile raised somewhat. Currently on loan at Crystal Palace, the 21 year-old was discovered, according to the The Mail by a scout named Alf Blandford, who took him to Chelsea`s Development School in Catford, London.

Watching his son play at Wembley on Friday, RLC`s dad was rightly a proud man on Friday evening as the article says when it quotes him again,

`’He is like a Rolls Royce, he used to win all of the player of the year awards. But once Chelsea clapped eyes on him they knew what he was. They knew he was special.`

Sadly for Ruben, the ‘special one` didn`t agree. As he helps Palace fight for survival this season the ‘kid` can hopefully develop into a fully fledged man that slots straight into Chelsea`s team next season.
