As Chelsea continue their quest for trophies.

I really hope that when the transfer window slams shut Mata is still a Chelsea player. He will be needed to help us win the title.

A lot has been made about his performance in the Southampton game and his reaction to being substituted, some people were unimpressed with his performance and his attitude when he was took off. I strongly disagree on both parts, he didn’t play that badly and was unlucky to be taken off so early.

If I were Mourinho I’d be delighted with his reaction, as to me it shows a player who is desperate to be out on the pitch, a player should never be happy when being taken off. Unfortunately he hasn’t reached the level he was at the last two seasons, and in my opinion it’s because he’s had a lot less game time.

I firmly believe if Mata was given a run of games he’d quickly get back to his best. A good example is Adebayor, he hardly featured under AVB and when he did come on he didn’t do much, but since Sherwood has been in charge he’s had a run of games, and is starting to look near his best.

The form of Oscar and Willian is making it difficult for Mata to get in the team. I think Oscar could play deeper where Lampard plays and Mata could play behind the striker. Imagine a line-up featuring Hazard, Oscar, Willian and Mata, that creative quartet would frighten most teams.

Can anyone else see Oscar in a deeper role?

As the games start piling up, squad rotation will be important so hopefully Mata can play a few games and prove all his doubters wrong.
