Recent form has left Chelsea’s chances of qualifying for the Champions League, next season, hanging by the slenderest of threads.
To be brutally honest, it’s looking as if, barring a miracle run of results, Chelsea will be playing in the Europa League next season, visiting some far-flung European out-posts on Thursday nights.
But, just how far have our performance levels slipped to leave us in such a sorry state?
Here at Vital Chelsea, we’ve uncovered a few facts and figures that explain our predicament quite nicely.
• Since the turn of the year, Chelsea have accumulated just 12 points, only 4 sides have a poorer record than that, the quartet being Southampton, Huddersfield Town, Stoke City and West Bromwich Albion, four sides that are involved in a relegation scrap.
• When it comes to clean-sheets, Chelsea have managed a big fat 0 in their last 8 league and cup games, a shocking statistic.
• If Antonio Conte cannot stop the rot away to Southampton, Chelsea could suffer a 4th consecutive away defeat, in the Premier League, since they lost 5 games back in 2000, one of which was against Southampton.
It’s not a pretty read is it!
