Just ONE Chelsea Player in PL Team of the Year

|

We’re at the time of the season where the Professional Footballers Association hand out their awards.

Disappointingly, nobody from Chelsea was nominated for the short-lists for either the Player of the Year or the Young Player of the Year.

Today, the PFA released their Premier League Team of the Year, it includes just ONE Chelsea player, with Marcos Alonso being recognised for the splendid work he’s put in this season, with the full starting eleven being:

David de Gea (Manchester United)
Kyle Walker (Manchester City)
Nicholas Otamendi (Manchester City)
Jan Vertonghen (Tottenham Hotspur)
Marcos Alonso (Chelsea)
David Silva (Manchester City)
Christian Eriksen (Tottenham Hotspur)
Kevin de Bruyne (Manchester City)
Mo Salah (Liverpool)
Harry Kane (Tottenham Hotspur)
Sergio Aguero (Manchester City)

The eleven represents a completely different scenario to one which we imagined when the defence of our 2016 / 2017 Premier League crown began, back in August, when we were hopeful that the likes of Eden Hazard, N’Golo Kante and Thibaut Courtois, to name but three, would be featuring prominently.

It just goes to show how the almighty have fallen.

Hopefully, this time next year it’ll be a different story.
