According to media reports Chelsea are set to expand the playing staff at Stamford Bridge by signing Soloman Kalou.

The twenty year old, currently plying his trade with Feyenoord, has been in protracted talks with Chelsea and a deal looks to be in the pipeline.

Chelsea were given permission to talk to Kalou on Thursday and the player journeyed to London to begin discussions.

One stumbling block could be that Kalou does not yet meet the criteria for a work permit which will require Chelsea to lodge an appeal with the Home Office.

The twenty-year old Ivorian striker is viewed as an outstanding prospect who can play up front or on either wing and is expected to be offered a four or five year contract.

Reflecting on the possible departure, Feyenoord marketing director, Chris Woerts remarked,

‘Anticipating the possible departure, we have given Salomon an authorisation to talk with Chelsea,’ Feyenoord marketing director Chris Woerts confirmed.

‘We have been in talks with this club over Kalou for some time.?

‘It’s going in the right direction but he still hasn’t reached an agreement yet. Chelsea sees in Kalou an exceptional talent.’

The impending arrival of Kalou will no doubt give the rumour mongers every opportunity to suggest that Chelsea could be looking to offload one of their current wide men.

No doubt the rumours of Robben to Barcelona and Wright-Phillips to Arsenal will fill many a Sunday column inch this weekend.
