Kane Escapes Ban After Azpilicueta Clash But Football Moves In Mysterious Ways

|

London derby fixtures always have the tendency to be feisty, especially, it seems, when Chelsea welcome Tottenham Hotspur to Stamford Bridge.

On Wednesday night, as Chelsea eased to a comfortable 2-0 win, the game never quite descended as low as the antics we saw in the famous ‘Battle of the Bridge’ a few seasons ago, but there were one or two moments when it looked as if things could boil over.

One incident, in the first half, saw Cesar Azpilicueta and Harry Kane engage in a far from pleasant conversation, a chat which ended with Kane shoving his head into the face of our Spanish captain.

Strangely enough, the match officials didn’t react to the crime and Kane was free to continue his minor part in proceedings.

However, the incident was seen by the media and on the Thursday morning after the game, the suggestion being bandied about was that Kane could very well receive a retrospective three-game ban.

But, as the day went on, news broke that the authorities were not going to take any further action and that there would be no ban.

Now, to me, that decision seemed a tad strange but upon delving deeper, perhaps the decision taken might have deeper connotations!

Lurking on the horizon are two European Championship qualifiers, fixtures which see England welcome the Czech Republic, to Wembley, on Friday 22nd March and then, the following Monday, travel to take on Montenegro.

Now, with international football on a high at the moment, would it be churlish to think somebody didn’t want Kane banned in case a ban barred him from being selected for the international squad!

Your thoughts, please.
