Lampard Gets The Ovation He Deserved

|

I doubt, whether, in the immediate future, Frank Lampard will witness a night like last night.

Our top-scorer, returning to Stamford Bridge for the first time as the manager of the opposition, was afforded the welcome he deserves.

The Matthew Harding end was adorned with banners acknowledging the affection the fans still have for their legend and on emerging from the tunnel, before kick-off, Lampard looked an emotional man as he waved to all four corners of the ground.

The result may not have gone his way but Frank was gracious enough to continue his acknowledgement of the support a capacity Stamford Bridge had given him, walking to all four stands to give the support a thumbs-up.

After the game, talking to the media, Frank had this to say about the reception he received:

“I’m so thankful to the Chelsea fans. I left through the back door and it upset me at the time but I have nothing but great memories of this place and they thank me like that. I’m a lucky man to have a night like that and I feel it.”

It was well deserved Frank and I get the feeling it won’t be a one-off, you’ll be afforded the welcome your achievements deserve whenever you return to the stadium you graced on so many occasions.
