Liverpool v Chelsea – Match Day Moments

|

With the fixtures coming thick and fast and just days after taking on Manchester United, at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea are up in the north-west taking on Liverpool.

When it comes to a top-four finish, this is a crucial fixture for both sides.

Liverpool’s season has been derailed by injuries to numerous centre-backs and their defence of their Premier League title is all but over with Manchester City establishing a handsome lead at the top.

Chelsea, sitting above Liverpool in the table, can do themselves a big favour by getting a result at Anfield but, it will be a tough ask.

As is the norm, we are running our Match Day Moments feature whereby we invite you to leave your views, in our comment facility, on a variety of subjects including, but not limited to:

1 – The build-up to this intriguing fixture.

2 – The starting XI selected by Thomas Tuchel.

3 – The action as it happens at Anfield.

4 – Your thoughts in the immediate period that follows the blowing of the final whistle.

Fingers crossed that it goes Chelsea’s way, and our lads can pour more misery on Jurgen Klopp’s woeful season.

Chelsea v Everton?

The Liverpool frontline are really going to test our defence

VAR chalks off an excellent goal from Werner who is on fire

1-0;at the half, could do easily had been 2 but for Werners goal getting overturned

In to extra time …. It will be mighthy unfortunate if we drop 2 pts now ….but we keep not scoring a 2nd

Tuchel uses up a few seconds to use his 3rd sub

    1-0 …. And I to 4th again !

Yipee …. West Ham & Everton have a game in hand on us no doubt but we are in sight of 2nd & 3rd now, so 3 places in play for a CL spot next year …which is so crucial if we are to attract a top centre forward to the club

This is our best performance yet this season. I’m not trying to make something of it just because it’s Liverpool, out play tonight was near perfect. Kudos to all the players for giving their all

  • Ridwan Yusuf says:

One of the things I enjoyed most about this game is the amount of chances we created. On another night it could easily have been 0-3. We could play another 90 mins and they still won’t lay a glove on us. Keep this up and our attackers will score loads of goals before the end of the season

  • Ridwan Yusuf says:

Seems like it’s you and I alone on this forum @Zeenut but you’re not a bad company to have as you surely know your stuff

    • ZeeNut says:

I’m really not an astute guy & know next to zero about tactics … But thanks for the kind words …. You are a really knowledgeable fan btw

  • ZeeNut says:

Yes Ridwan … I feel sad that such a vibrant group 10-15 years ago is now deserted …. Olasal, Tambling, Lindy, so many others …they were so knowledgeable & so active a decade ago …. Wonder where they are now

  • ZeeNut says:

This match really boosted my confidence in our defence minus Thiago Silva …. Thought he was indispensable , but Rudiger-Christensen-Cesar are really bringing it …. Anyway hope he’s close to being fit

There’s still a fragile mentality, and a weak link, somewhere. That was not a very convincing win, over a VERY POOR Liverpool. I’m gonna say it straight – I am NOT a fan of Ziyech. I’d have Pulisic on, all day, every day. Do not like Ziyech, at all. He’s making the job harder for other players. His weaknesses become a glaring liability for the rest of the squad. I love a good left footer, but he’s so left-footed that he’s useless as anything but a shooter. When we can do better than we did last time out against Man City, I’ll have a different attitude. What Thomas Tuchel has “done” at Chelsea with the defense, is just to prioritize what we already know they are capable of. They’re not world beaters, or anything. But this is what they are SUPPOSED to do. That it’s not been happening, doesn’t make Tuchel a magician. If he is, then he’d best wave his wand, and get the attackers back to scoring like they were at the beginning of the season under Lampard – but without letting down the defense.
