To make your senior England debut must have been a wonderful feeling for young Reuben Loftus-Cheek, but to be voted as the man-of-the-match must have been unbelievable.

But that`s exactly what happened last night, at Wembley, for the young Chelsea midfielder who is on a season long loan-spell with Crystal Palace.

Loftus-Cheek was the star of the show as he produced a performance that could very well see him make Gareth Southgate`s squad for the 2018 World Cup, in Russia.

After such a comprehensive display, Reuben was also going to be the subject of attention from the press and the youngster fielded the questions fired at him with confidence.

On possibly making the World Cup squad, Reuben remarked,

“To go to the World Cup, it`s a long season and I`ll look to improve. I have to keep learning – hopefully there`s a chance.”

And on his performance,

“I`m happy. It was a tough game against a good Germany.

“The age in the squad was good for us. I certainly leaned a lot.

“The manager just said do your best. I had Gareth for three years in the U21`s so it wasn`t such a new thing.”

But what did the boss, Gareth Southgate, make of his young midfielder`s performance, this is what Southgate had to say,

“He`s got so many top attributes, that`s why he`s in the team.

“The wider public might not be aware of him – you`d have to follow him closely – but we believe in him and the others we played, I`m not surprised.”

Was a new English star born at Wembley on Friday night?
