Reports say a man has been arrested by the London Metropolitan Police after allegedly attacking Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho and a couple of players with a laser pen during the Champions League encounter with Steaua Bucharesti at Stamford Bridge.

Confirming the report, Mourinho said he had been ‘zapped’ by the pen which is believed was shone from the away end of the stadium.

He said: “I was aware of it, but I cannot be worried about that when the game is going on. I don’t know if it creates any kind of problem, and during the game I felt it a couple of times, but not big.”

“I felt the green laser, but I felt no pain, so I kept going.”

It could be recalled that Chelsea gave the Romanian side the blues via a 10th winner by Demba Ba to finish top of Group E, but the game was marred by the laser attack, which also involved Oscar and Eden Hazard; and the Metropolitan Police has now confirmed a man in connection with the incident has been arrested and detained in a West London police station for further investigation.

Right now details are sketchy though we will endeavour to bring to you further details of this dastardly show of hooliganism as they unfold, even as we wish the culprit(s) will soon be brought to book and have the book thrown at, by the appropriate authorities, to serve as a deterrent to future offenders.

But who do you think was the attacker in question or what were his motives? Perhaps you want to tell us a bit more about laser attack and its possible effects on humans, especially sportsmen?
