Yesterday the news broke that Frank Lampard, according to numerous news sources, had decided that his future lay with New York City in the MLS.

This morning that inference is still prominent, however it appears there could be a twist in the tale.

The MLS season doesn`t commence until March 2015 and it is being reported that Manchester City are trying to obtain the services of the England vice-captain on a short term deal.

Lampard will be 36 years of age by the time the new season comes around but City, obviously, feel that he still has something to offer, plus they`re also aware he`ll come as a free transfer and will also boost their quota of home-grown players as they consider a Champions League campaign.

However, previously, Lampard has indicated that if he were to leave Stamford Bridge he`d never pull on the shirt of another Premier League club.

Could City`s resolve seriously challenge those words?
