Tonight, Chelsea welcome Manchester United to Stamford Bridge for a Carabao Cup tie.

For the winners, a place in the quarter-finals of the competition awaits and a possible appearance in a Wembley Final.

Chelsea enter the fixture on a remarkable run having won, in all competitions, their last seven games, will tonight see Frank Lampard’s young side register eight wins on the bounce?

Perhaps the small matter of being soundly beaten, in the opening fixture of the 2019 / 2020 season, by tonight’s opponents may provide that added motivation to beat Ole Gunnar Solksjaer’s side.

As is the norm, here at Vital Chelsea, we’re running our match day moments feature whereby we ask you to leave your opinions on a variety of subjects including but not limited to:

1 – The build-up to the big clash.

2 – The starting eleven selected by Frank Lampard

3 – The action as it happens at Stamford Bridge

4 – Your thoughts in the immediate period following the sounding of the final whistle.

Here’s hoping, come bedtime tonight, we’ve all got a little smile on our faces.

Up the Chels!

  • Poor defending from Alonso, gave the ball away with an extra smart pass when he should have cleared, then tackles the forward from behind in the box …. Though the contact I must say was not much, the ManU forward milked it.

  • Poor game from every one except the defense.
Batshuayi, odoi, Gilmour, Alonso were so poor…. Pulisic, Kovacic, jorghino were not able to find enough movement upfront due to united is static defensively, they just left the ball for Chelsea who were poor.
This is Ole, he gets result against good teams most times… Because he sets up defensively…

  • I know it is just one game but Alonslow could be the downfall of Lamps. That guy is not worthy of Chelsea at all. He plays too casually as if nothing is at stake. Save for the occasional goals, Emerson should take back the left back position fully

  • And those clamouring for Batshuayi ahead of Tammy can now see for themselves that he only performs better coming from the bench. How many loans has he been sent to? He has no movement and hold up play like Tammy. When Tammy isn’t scoring, he’s helping the team win matches with decoy moves and brilliant plays

    • Just wait we still have a lot of games coming. Abraham cannot get results in big games but Batsman can. Abraham cannot change the game from the bench but Batsman can. Physical strength batsman is far ahead of Abraham. The only difference now is that batsman have had limited game time.

  • Unfortunately it’s ManU who gets it …. 1-2 …. To a brilliant Rashford free kick …. Now we have to do it all again

  • 1-2 it ends …. Would have liked an extended run to keep everyone involved …. Sadly, it was not to be

  • So the bad Alonso mistake proved decisive … Hoping Emerson gets back quickly as I feel he is a better defender

  • Just depressing because how many times is Chelsea going to keep losing to Manchester United. It is not that we don’t expect losing but losing to the same team several times shows that the managers in charge have no depth. At least managers should also have respect for the fans. Even when they deliberately want to lose the game they must not make it so obvious.
