Match Day Moments – Carabao Cup Semi-Final Second Leg – Tottenham (H)

|

Okay, our usual feature has appeared on the front-page a day earlier than usual, but a semi-final, against Tottenham Hotspur, is always big news and, here at Vital Chelsea, we feel it deserves it.

The game, scheduled to kick-off at 20:00 hours on Thursday 24th January, gives the winning side a Carabao Cup Final place, at Wembley, against Manchester City, who secured their place in the final with a 9-0 first leg thrashing of Burton Albion.

Tottenham Hotspur enter the game with the advantage of leading 1-0, courtesy of a dubious piece of VAR refereeing which ignored the fact Harry Kane ran from an offside position before being fouled by Kepa inside the penalty box.

But, despite Chelsea’s defeat and poor performance against Arsenal, on Saturday, there is the feeling that Chelsea enter this second-leg with a huge chance of overcoming the 1-0 deficit to reach the first major final of the season.

Tottenham Hotspur have been hit by injuries to two of their key attacking components of their normal starting eleven, with Harry Kane and Dele Alli both side-lined until at least March, Another absentee is Son with the Korean away on international duty in the Asian Cup.

However, it would be dangerous to ignore the threat Tottenham still possess and Chelsea can ill-afford to start as poorly as they have done on some occasions this season.

In the first leg, Chelsea were the dominant team, possession-wise, but lacked that cutting edge that turns attacking intent into goals scored, hopefully, plans to bring in the Argentine striker, Gonzalo Higuain will have come to fruition and the 31-year-old will be given the chance to make himself an instant hero.

Much will depend on the starting eleven Maurizio Sarri will select, something we’ve asked you for your thoughts on in a previous article; Click Here.

Here at Vital Chelsea, we’re expecting a tense game that will go down to the wire, it’ll be one of those nights where nails are bitten and nerves are run ragged.

As is the norm, we’re running our usual Match Day Moments feature whereby we invite you to leave your opinions on a variety of subjects including, but not limited to:

1 – The build-up to what should be a cracking cup tie including your hopes and wishes.
