Match Day Moments – Premier League – Manchester City (H)

|

Chelsea are back in action this evening when they face Manchester City, in a Premier League fixture at Stamford Bridge.

After a poor run of form the Chelsea faithful will be hoping their side can get back to winning ways against a Manchester City side that have been hit by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Pep Guardiola will be forced to field a weakened side with as many as FIVE regular starters missing.

Can Chelsea capitalise on City’s misfortune?

As usual, we are running our Match Day Moments feature whereby we encourage you to, via our comment facility beneath this article, to leave your opinions on a variety of subjects including, but not limited to:

1 – The build-up to the big game.

2 – The starting XI selected by Frank Lampard.

3 – The action as it happens at Stamford Bridge.

4 – Your thoughts in the immediate period following the sounding of the final whistle.

Will it turn out to be Chelsea’s day or is the run of poor form set to continue?

Sorry Franck! I love you as a Chelsea legend, but as for you being the manager of our team, you’re just not good enough! Go back to the championship to learn a little more.

Why always Mason Mount? We need to see other combinations, as good as he is different combinations brings different motivations among players!

After a bright start, where we could easily have got a penalty, we have been outplayed. It certainly looks like it’s going to be tough to make Top-4 this year on the strength of this showing .

Let’s see what Lamps does at half time to shake things up.

Pulisic is the only one who looks like doing some damage up front …. Hope we can get an early goal 2nd half to give us some hope.

A little better in the 2nd, but perhaps because City were content with their big lead. Again I felt only Pulisic looked dangerous, and I think we missed Giroud in the middle to get on the end of some crosses. Mendy had one excellent save which I hope will help his confidence which must be waning of late. Lampard has his work cut out to turn the season around again after this deep dip …. Hope he can turn it around.

Let’s call a spade by its name. There’s no turning around with this manager in charge. We are all responsible for throwing a small fish in a big water too early. This Chelsea is not a club to experiment or build players. Every club have their models of running the club and ours is to win trophies in the short term possible. Why should we imitate the likes of Liverpool or Arsenal who are content with building a team for the future? Must we wait 30 years to get to where we want? Why not focus on what has served us best? Chop and change our enemies call it but who amongst them can boast of our trophy haul in the last decade? We need to be pragmatic and act swiftly as this season is still salvageable from this wreck and hopefully we can challenge for titles as the season draws close

The number one thingI have against Lampard is that he gives up too soon when the game is not going our way. The minute we concede first, he throws in the towel. The spirit and zeal to continue fighting when the odds are against us is not there anymore like it used to. Nothing can erase the fact that Lamps is a Chelsea legend but he really needs to be relieved of his duties as our manager and garner more experience in a team where the pressure to win is lesser
