Morata Continues To Struggle And There Doesn’t Appear To Be Any Light At The End Of The Tunnel

|

Given a place in the starting eleven last night, as Chelsea eased to a 1-0 win away from home, against PAOK Salonika, in the Europa League, it’s probably being kind to suggest that Alvaro Morata didn’t have the best of game.

The Spanish striker missed several good chances to ease any fears the Chelsea support may have had about PAOK getting back into the game.

Clearly, Morata’s confidence is low as the Spanish striker looks for the kind of performance that will kick-start his season.

After the game, Maurizio Sarri, as reported by the BBC, had this to say about his struggling striker:

“Morata had three or four opportunities, he was unlucky.

“I hope in the future I can try to help him, but the confidence comes only with goals. I am not able to give him confidence.

“But I have to say also that for the first time this season he was very ready in the box. He was on the ball, he was active.”

It’s glad to see Sarri looking for the positive points in what was a poor display from the player.

Continuing, Sarri is also reported by Reuters, as having remarked;

“Alvaro has to gain confidence with one, two, three goals.

“I am not able to give him confidence. In this match, he had three or four opportunities.

“He was unlucky. I hope for him in the future I can help him. But the confidence can come with goals.”

Unfortunately, results are everything in this level of football and any thoughts of Morata being able to boost his confidence by grabbing a couple of goals in our next two games look bleak.

Sat here in the editorial chair, I’d be amazed if Sarri selected Morata ahead of Giroud for the Sunday trip to take on West Ham and with a tough Carabao Cup trip to Liverpool also coming up, would Sarri be willing to risk Morales in a game where any chances that fall our way, at Anfield, will be few and far between and the finishing will need to be clinical?

I seriously doubt it.

But what are your opinions on our misfiring striker?
