Sometimes you have to ask whether referees have a heart of are just robotic in their nature.

Last night, with the EFL Cup quarter-final seemingly drifting away from Chelsea, Alvaro Morata was introduced, by Antonio Conte, to try and give the side the impetus needed to hold off a strong second-half performance from Bournemouth.

As it turned out, the south-coast club did get the equaliser their enterprising second-half performance deserved.

But cometh the hour cometh the man.

Just sixty seconds after the Stamford Bridge crowd were silenced and wit the away support in raptures, Alvaro Morata latched on to an assist from Eden Hazard to clip the ball past Boruc to give Chelsea a place in the semi-finals.

In celebrating his winning goal, Morata stuffed the ball up his jersey, in homage to the news that his wife is expecting a child, before enjoying his moment in front of the Matthew Harding Stand.

His celebrations resulted in the referee, Lee Mason, showing the Spaniard a yellow card.

The card means that Morata will now be suspended for the Premier League fixture, away to Everton, this Saturday, after collecting five yellow cards this season.

Robotic referees, extracting the emotion from our fine game, don`t you think!
