And so, after a large slice of humble pie has been eaten, Ashley Cole is available for selection for England this Friday, when they entertain San Marino.

Cole, who apologized personally to David Bernstein has, in doing so, alleviated Roy Hodgson of a problem he was looking forward to dealing with.

Speaking about the change in events, Hodgson has remarked,

“The chairman has gracefully accepted the apology from Ashley. I know how disappointed and saddened he is with the situation.”

“This is a player with 98 caps who has hardly ever missed a game for England when he`s been regarded as one of the best, if not THE best left-back in the world for years.”

“No one would commit his commitment to the shirt, which makes his contribution the greater that he might have put his position in jeopardy. I`m glad he hasn`t done that.”

“I was always hoping he and the chairman would sort it out between them and I wouldn`t have to make a decision of this magnitude.”

So can we take it from that Ashley is set to pick up cap number 99?
