Lurking in the sports pages of a leading exponent of the tabloid market is an interesting piece of transfer speculation.

It suggests that Jose Mourinho would quite like to launch a raid on Stamford Bridge for a centre-back.

According to the good folk of The Sun, the central defender Mourinho is looking at is none other than Kurt Zouma.

Zouma, 20-years-of-age, has made a successful return from a bad knee injury, obtained in the home fixture with Manchester United last season, but has been unable to make a position in the starting eleven his own.

Mourinho, who has problems at centre-back with Phil Jones and Chris Smalling falling foul of some recent barbed comments, looks set to test Chelsea`s resolve to hang on to their young French defender.

But, with John Terry exiting Stamford Bridge this summer, it remains to be seen whether Antonio Conte would be prepared to lose another centre-back from his squad.

Here at Vital Chelsea we`ll keep an eye on developments.

  • Don’t believe the story coming out from the Sun as they aren’t credible source of information. They have linked Matic there first, then Willian & now Zouma. As if that’s not enough they even went ahead to link our reported targets like Morata & Lukaku to ManU. So which one is real & which isn’t? Zouma is best served on loan elsewhere if he cant get enough playing time here. There is no point selling him as he can do a job for us, & having sustained injury playing for us there is the need for his continued devt as we can save a lot of money if he improves on loan just like Christensen.
