Can a fixture against the Catalan giants ever be a friendly?

With the US tour now history, with Chelsea heading for home after defeating Barcelona in the early hours of this morning, Jose Mourinho will now be looking to lock horns with his old adversary, Arsene Wenger, this Sunday in the Community Shield.

With the duo already trading, how you might say, differing opinions, it has all the prospects of being a feisty affair.

But, reflecting on the win last night, and talking to Fox Sports, Jose had a few words to say about the game, remarking,

“For a preparation match it was fantastic for us.

“It was a good pre-season game for us, I think for both teams and also for the public. You know, it`s a friendly, but when Barcelona face Chelsea, you want to win, it`s not a friendly.”

Indeed it isn`t and it can never be after previous games between us have generated an element of animosity.

But, continuing, Jose also had words of praise and encouragement for the Brazilian teenager

Kenedy who was allowed by his club, Fluminense, to play in the fixture ahead of the finalization of his move to Stamford Bridge, with Jose adding,

“Even in a friendly, it`s the best debut for a kid to play against the best team. It was a great match for the kid and a great experience for him.”

It was and he never looked out of place amongst some of the best players Europe has to offer.
