No Exit For Gudjohnsen

Jose Mourinho has rubbished press talk suggesting Eidur Gudjohnsen will be allowed to leave Chelsea.

Mourinho said: ‘He is a player I trust very much and the team needs him,’

Transfer rumours suggest that Newcastle are lining up a bid for the Icelandic striker who has struggled to cement a first team place due to the wealth of stars Mourinho has at his disposal.

Gudjohnsen has even been utilised as a central midfielder but has faced very tough competition as Lampard and Essien are forming a formidable partnership. I don’t think there is a team in the world that would consider not playing Lampard at the moment, so it is certainly no slight on Gudjohnsen if he can’t displace him!

It also appears that Mourinho is firmly of the opinion that Drogba is their number one strike option.

However, despite links, Mourhinho insists Gudjohnsen is very much in his plans.

‘I would say for sure that he is one of my first 15 players, but at the moment my options are Didier Drogba as striker and Michael Essien and Frank Lampard in midfield.’

Speculation also suggests Newcastle are looking at a move for William Gallas, but Mourinho has also slammed the door shut on that being an option saying the player is staying at Chelsea.
