With the Premier League won and hopes of landing a unique League and FA Cup double still very much alive, it`s not been a bad first season for Antonio Conte.

In fact, to be honest, it`s been a darn good one.

But, you get the impression Conte isn`t one to sit on his laurels.

His determination to take Chelsea back to the summit of European football will see no stone unturned at Stamford Bridge as the Italian badgers the club to bring in the reinforcements he feels are necessary to take the club to that next stage of its evolution.

When Chelsea won the Premier League back in 2014 / 2015, the accusation was levelled that the club, having won the title, failed to take the necessary steps to ensure they didn`t stand still.

What happened is history, the worst defence of a title we`ve ever made and Jose Mourinho axed.

Already, we`ve run an article today whereby the insinuation that a £200 million transfer chest is available and it seems the good folk of The Sun, have stumbled upon a midfielder Chelsea are prepared to pay big bucks for,

The player in question is the Italian midfielder, Marco Verratti, with it being suggested that Chelsea are willing to pay £55 million for the 24-year-old who is currently on the books of Paris Saint-Germain.

But what`s your views on this piece of speculation?

Do you see Verratti as the perfect fit for Chelsea Football Club.

  • A good player but not needed now that we have Kante. Also he is dirty and I doubt he could get away with a lot of those fouls he regularly commits in Ligue 1. We need a replacement for Matic, not Kante
A Verratti/ Kante midfield would make us weak aerial both in offensive and defensive phases

  • he will be a very good addition. moreover, even though he is dirty in terms of play, his passes are top class. I personally prefer Naingolan because of his long range shot on goal and athletism…. but Conte knows better.

  • Exactly my sentiments @Dwonder the hostile media will pick his case often & vilify him as everything wrong with football that we represent. Naingolan is good but heard he is a chain smoker, with same media meddling into private his life will accuse him for polluting the English airspace. What about that guy like Kante playing for RB Leipzig Naby Keita. I learnt his club is interested in Dominic Solanke, why not him & cash for Keita?

  • Keita would be a good choice, Naingolan also, despite his smoking , but Keita would last longer . Veratti is a walking red card,. He just signed an extension at PSG , cannot see him leaving .

  • No.That will mean having too many midgets in the team. That won’t be a CFC-like team.

  • What about buying the contract rebel Ross Barkley from Everton & play him along Kante, Matic & Cesc as CM rather than an attacking one, anyone?

  • If Conte works on him he can be a very good CM who can shoot outside the box, can hustle, very strong, tackle well & can pick a pass both short & long range. I think that choice is better than that Bakayoko who I no longer rate. KTBFFH!!!

  • No way.Ross Barkley is one player that has flattered to deceive…he’s not needed. Still feel we need a midfielder that is better than Bakayoko-good awareness, passes, able to maintain the tempo…

  • Antonio Conte: ?Honestly, for sure this season wasn’t easy for me about my family because we decided, my wife and my daughter, they would stay in Italy to allow my daughter to finish school. But, for sure, next season our intention is to keep all the family in England and stay together.?

“It will be a good opportunity, also, for my daughter to live in another country. To go to school in another country is a fantastic opportunity, and a great gift for her. We chose the school also last season, an Italian school, and this is the last problem. In England, and above all in London, there are wonderful schools for the kids.?

  • @Jerry, Ross isn’t exactly the kind midfielder we need, besides he’s overrated-so I’d say he’s not better. We need a solid central midfielder. For me, Bakayoko is too defensive to solve our problems in the middle. If we stick with Bakayoko-like midfielders we’ll still struggle against Liverpool and Spurs, teams that press high up the pitch.

  • Agreed, so who do you think is a better fit? I really like your brief analysis, then
who is that ideal signing which we won’t end up struggling against even against the likes of Barca let alone Spurs or pool? I mean a player that combines the physicality & strength of Wanyama or Dembele, stamina & tackle of Kante, & passing ranges (short & long passionate) like Fabregas as well as having aerial advantage. Don’t tell me we have to extend our search in to Mars before we see one….. Lol.

  • May be in future if we are very lucky Chalobah & Baker will develop into that ideal CM partnership. They need to baulk up though but like what I saw when Chalobah barged Aguero to the ground following that horrible kick on Luiz. Let’s see Luis Baker in pre-season before making final conclusion, but had high hopes for RLC to be just what we need at that position because of his physical characteristics & skills on the ball.

  • @Jerry, couldn’t have said it any better. Truth is, there are very few all-round midfielders (combination of physicality, good awareness, passes and creativity etc). So hard to find. So I just don’t know who’s a better fit. Hoping Conte will spot a rough diamond, Polish it in the course of the season and then we’ll have a real gem.

  • Chelsea fc cannot allow teams bully them in the midfield any longer. However I have confidence in RLC to operate in that position rather than as supporting striker each time Antonio Conte offered him opportunity to play.Let us develop our own players for them to develop also. Some players that are linked to the club now were giving chances to play and becomes good before we develop interest on them.

  • Right now Naingolan would be the best fit for us, he can boss the midfield, great passing and defending , and he can even score the odd goal , teams would find it hard to get past him . Bakayoko is more like a slight Mikel upgrade .
