Chelsea are closing in on a deal that would see Renato Sanches sign from Bayern Munich on a season long loan. The Portuguese international is looking for more game time ahead of next summer`s World Cup.

The Express are running a story that the Blues are willing to meet Bayern`s demands for the midfielder. AC Milan, who, are also after the player are believed to want an option to buy at the end of any loan term. Having spent £35m on the player last summer the German side are keen to retain Sanches on their books.

At 19 years of age and with just 41 first team appearances in his career, there must question marks. He falls well short of the 200 games of senior football that Chelsea`s academy boss Neil Bath recently stated is required to make Chelsea`s starting eleven.

Without sounding like a stuck record, you have to ask why sell Nathaniel Chalobah, who has been through the whole Chelsea system in favour of this ‘kid`. He may well be a very talented youngster but do we not trust our own academy to produce exactly this type of player.

Chelsea`s academy system gains plaudits throughout the game of football. It is admired throughout the world. Why the club don`t use it for their own advantage is beyond me. It`s about time Roman Abramovich woke up and smelt the coffee.
