This morning, once again, the media carries speculation that Ruben Loftus-Cheek could be the subject of interest from various clubs, this January transfer window.
The 22-year-old, who has been on the periphery of things this season but when called upon always seems to deliver is, according to the tabloid publication, the Mirror, subject of interest from Crystal Palace, where he spent last season on loan, Bournemouth, West Ham United, Newcastle United and the Bundesliga side, Schalke.
However, at his press conference, ahead of the Premier League fixture with Wolverhampton Wanderers, Maurizio Sarri, has reiterated the player is going nowhere, with the boss, as reported by the BBC, remarking about the situation:
“I want him to stay with me, to stay with us. I think there is no chance.”
Now I suggest that is good news.
At the weekend, against Fulham, it was noticeable that when Loftus-Cheek was introduced as a substitute he brought something extra to the midfield, power, pace and the ability to quicken the game.
Kante, Kovacic and Jorginho may all be excellent players, but they don’t carry the muscle to be the midfield powerhouse that Ruben can become.
However, if any thoughts of a loan move is to be firmly extinguished then Sarri may have to placate the youngster by giving him more match time.
