Sarri’s Reaction Just Leaves Me Confused And Perplexed

|

I dread to think what the media reaction would have been, this morning, if Maurizio Sarri hadn’t of gotten the win he needed last night, against Malmo, in Sweden.

As it is, his side got a narrow victory that should be sufficient enough for Chelsea to reach the last-16 stages of the Europa League.

After the narrow victory, Sarri faced the media and when pushed by BT Sport, and as reported by the BBC, remarked:

“I think we played a good match again a team who are very physical. We were scared a bit on set-pieces. We were in control of the match and we deserved to win with more goals.

“I am happy because we played with confidence and it wasn’t really very easy after the last match. We conceded on a mistake and that can happen but the level of attention was really very good for 90 minutes so I am very happy.

“But we know we have to gain the qualification in the next match. I think I am always confident but sometimes we had the wrong approach with matches so we need to be careful in every match.”

Nothing remarkable there, except the usual ‘everything is fine’ vibe from Sarri when clearly on the evidence of the past month it isn’t.

To me, it’s criminal that we’ve had to wait until mid-February for our first away goal of 2019, it’s criminal that Sarri continues to select those who are consistently underperforming and, as for Hudson-Odoi, another seven minutes of competitive action is going to go a long way, not, to convince him that he really does have a bright future at Stamford Bridge.

To me, press conferences, either before or after a game, have been enjoyable encounters, we could always rely on Jose Mourinho to be controversial and sometimes outrageous, we could rely on Antonio Conte to tell it as it was even if he knew he’d be getting in hot water the Stamford Bridge hierarchy, but, with Sarri it just leave me perplexed, confused and wondering if he’s been watching the same game as us.

Does anyone else feel the same?
