The appointment of Andre Villas-Boas has been welcomed by the vast majority of Chelsea supporters, but the devil in me can`t help but wonder if there was an air of apprehension considering that he`d previously worked for Chelsea and had left in somewhat controversial circumstances.

When Andre was here before, as Jose`s opposition scout; the parting of the ways came in dramatic fashion with Jose and his team (including Andre) leaving after a Champions League Group game.

At the time, the real reasons for the parting of the ways were never revealed and to this day that is the case, although there are several rumours still doing the rounds. However, I can`t help thinking that the event may well have received a mention in the discussions that saw Andre Villas-Boas leave FC Porto for Stamford Bridge.

Now whether they were awkward moments or were passed by quickly with nothing more than a rueful smile exchanged, we`ll never know, even more so when Andre was giving very little away when the point was up for discussion during his first press conference yesterday with Andre simply remarking,

“When I was at Chelsea before I was in a good, successful technical staff. We left after the Rosenburg game. We had a full season ahead of us but the owner decided we had to part company.”

“There`s nothing wrong with that. In the end he has to fulfil the expectations of the fans too.”

Anyone else here who would have loved to have been a fly on the wall when that moment was quite probably recalled during the recent job negotiations?
