Chelsea`s development squad took on Milton Keynes Dons this evening in the Checkatrade Trophy, try saying that after a couple of pints. It`s the first time Chelsea`s under 21`s, as they are also known have made it to the knockout the stage of the competition.

Judging by manager, Joe Edwards, starting XI, he was keen to progress even further. In the starting XI were goalkeeper, Eduardo, Michy Batshuayi, Charly Musonda, Kenedy, Ethan Ampadu, Dujon Sterling, Jake Clarke-Salter and Kyle Scott. All have at the very least been on the bench for the senior side this season. Batshuayi, made a subs appearance for the first XI against Atletico Madrid yesterday.

Also in the lineup alongside Batshuayi, was Callum Hudson-Odoi. It was the Belgian who opened the scoring midway through the first half. Good work soon saw the the Batsman double the lead, when Kenedy set him up with a tap-in. Hudson-Odoi added a third goal before the break, striking from 30 yards out. A fumble from the Dons keeper and the ball was in the net.

In the second half there was no let up in the goal action, well actually there was, it was after Batshuayi set up Charly Musonda to fire in the fourth and final goal early into the second period.

The final score was Chelsea 4-0 MK Dons.
