With 2017 having now been confined to the history books, with 2018 now upon us, the BBC have published their ‘Team of the Year`.

Chosen by viewers of the BBC Sport website, we are pleased to report that Chelsea had 3 representatives after votes from more than 115,00 readers were counted, the three being – Eden Hazard, Marco Alonso and Cesar Azpilicueta.

Two others of those selected also had Chelsea connections, with Kevin de Bruyne and Mo Salah, who both played (briefly) for Chelsea also selected in a starting eleven that reads:

David de Gea
Kyle Walker
Cesar Azpilicueta
Toby Alderweireld
Marco Alonso
Philippe Coutinho
Kevin de Bruyne
David Silva
Eden Hazard
Harry Kane
Mo Salah

As you can see, there was no place in the line-up for a player that won consecutive titles for two different clubs, Leicester and Chelsea, and a player who also scooped the professional Footballers` Association Players of the Year, one N`Golo Kante.

The Frenchman, apparently, just missed out as the 12th most popular pick.
