When Chelsea signed Thiago Silva, the Brazilian, despite being at the veteran stage of his career, was seen as the defender who could bring some stability to the heart of a defence that had leaked so many goals the previous season.
Apart from a schoolboy mistake away to West Bromwich Albion, Thiago has looked confident in his role at the club, in the games he has played so far.
Barring injury or suspension, the Brazilian will, undoubtedly, be first-choice when it comes to being one of the centre-backs Frank Lampard opts for, but who will be his regular partner?
That was, more-or-less, the very subject of one of our recent polls which posed the pertinent question:
Who Would Be Your Preferred Defensive Partner for Thiago Silva?
We gave you four option to choose from and all four, post the transfer window slamming shut, remain at the club, with the quartet being, Andreas Christensen, Kurt Zouma, Fikayo Tomori and Antonio Rudiger.
The results were conclusive with 50% preferring to see Kurt Zouma alongside the legendary Brazilian, something I am perfectly happy to see.
As for the remainder of the votes cast, Antonio Rudiger took 24%, Fikayo Tomori took 14% and the remaining 12% went to Andreas Christensen.
For me, Zouma has settled back into the side well this season and a partnership with Thiago Silva appears to be the way forward.

Chelsea signed zouma at a very young age and played him along side John Terry. Lampard. Drogba etc because of his unique qualities which he has shown on loans. Could you be conducting such poll if his terrible injury at Manchester united had not occurred under the hard to satisfy Mourinho? Let us grade these kind of players and coaches this season rather than the last because of the contrasting conditions that we are all aware of. Apart from Thiago, Zouma is by far our best defender, and in our present condition is best placed to partner Thiago Silva. I would advise lamps to stick with the 4 2 3 1 formation with these players: mendy, azpilequeta, chilwell, zouma, Silva, kante, kovacic, ziyech, pulisic, harvertz, and Warner.

with zuma in the team it means thiago don’t need to play forward. and if he do zuma is quick enough to fall back and cover.
Thiago silva is 36 and I don’t expect him to play 38 league matches, 6 champions league match and perhaps 2-3 FA cup matches…. Never!!
There will be a time we see Christensen + Zouma
Christensen + Rudiger
Rudiger + Zouma
Or even Tomori + any of them.
But for partnering Thiago silva when he plays, Kurt zouma is the best bet…
1. Language.
2. Zouma has pace and can cover Thiago.
3. Zouma is a rough tender, he can intimidate.
4. Defending crosses… Silva is not that tall… Zouma’s height will come in handy.
Rudiger and Tomori can do a job… But I don’t know about Christensen…
Can Christensen or Tomori cover Kante when we rests him or he got injured? I wish one for them can.!!!
