The Reason Why Rudiger Was Dropped?

|

Against Southampton, at St Marys’, our German defender, Antonio Rudiger, was conspicuous by his absence from the 18-man squad selected for the game.

No reason was given for his absence, with no indication that the defender was injured, and we’re convinced he wasn’t suspended.

However, one news source, the Express, is of the opinion the summer signing may have been axed in response to remarks he made after Chelsea had surrendered a 1-0 lead, against West Ham United, in the previous match, with Rudiger having remarked,

“I think we begged. We begged for the goal.

“I think in the second half we could finish the game off.

“But like the last few months, we didn’t and we conceded.

“For me, it’s not easy to explain.

“I don’t understand why after 1-0 we always drop and let the opponent get more ball possession.

“Like the last weeks again, we gave them a gift.”

Could our source be right?

Did Rudiger overstep the mark in his interview?
