With Petr Cech now gone, albeit just a few miles up the road to Arsenal, our young Belgian keeper is now the main man between the posts.

Although Asmir Begovic, recently signed from Stoke City, is expected to give Courtois some competition, it`d be a huge surprise if Courtois, after being Jose`s preferred keeper last season, didn`t feature on a prominent basis.

As the new season approaches and with yet another of the old guard, having cut his ties, the focus is now on as to whether the new-guard, having won two trophies last season in the form of the Capital One Cup and the Premier League, can add to the trophy count this coming season.

Over in the US, preparing for the second game of the US tour, a tasty looking encounter against Paris St-Germain, Courtois has responded to a question from a journalist regarding matching Cech`s haul of medals whilst he was at Stamford Bridge, forcing Courtois to give the following reply, substantiated by The Sun,

“Of course I hope to win as many trophies as I can – but I will not look to do what Petr did.

“What he did with Chelsea was something great, alongside Didier Drogba, Frank Lampard and John Terry.

“But it`s the new era. I don`t want to be compared with Petr. I`m a new player, another keeper and I`m going a different way.

“What Petr did with Chelsea was exceptional. I hope to get as many trophies as he did but his tally Is not something I`m staring at.”

Indeed it shouldn`t be, Thibaut is his own man and although still in his early twenties has already accumulated quite a collection of whilst out on loan at Atletico Madrid and whilst back at Stamford Bridge.

For me, it`s almost a case of the King is dead, long live the King!
