It would appear whilst Chelsea were officially reported to have secured the signature of three youngsters in the winter window, namely Nemanja Matic, Mohamed Salah and Kurt Zouma – who was immediately loaned back to his former club, St. Etienne – a fourth name slipped by most of the English press and Chelsea fans alike.

Well, Croatian press now reveal Chelsea, led by Technical Director Michael Emenalo, also signed one of the two* hottest young talents in Croatian football on a pre-contract deal worth ?2m in the form of 19-year-old Mario Posalic from Hajduk Split, with the youngster also handed the Zouma route to Chelsea first team reckoning, where he has gone on to further impress with great performances for Hajduk – scoring 11 goals in 25 games.

*Alen Halilovic who’s the other one is also bidding his time to join up with, who else but Barcelona, having signed a similar pre-contract.

Confirming the done deal, the midfielder, touted as a Michael Ballack reincarnate, said:

“I’m glad everything is successfully completed, it is now back to training and the next six months I have to concentrate solely on Hajduk. Nothing else I can say.”

Indeed, nothing else the lad can say, especially not when the mastermind of the deal himself, Emenalo, also stated over the weekend after watching the derby game between Hajduk Split and RNK Split in which the kid starred and scored the only goal of the match in a 1-0 win:

“Mario has grown at Hajduk. In the summer he has to go to a club where he will continue to evolve in order to one day play at Stamford Bridge.”

Ahem. Did I hear you say Vitesse Arnhem, what with Dutchman Marco Van Ginkel already here?! Ahem…
