After taking over one of the hottest managerial seats in the Premier League, very late in the build-up to the new season, with Antonio Conte’s services having been dispensed with, Maurizio Sarri has done exceedingly well.

The Italian has adapted to life in the Premier League with ease and, after adopting his style of play, Chelsea are unbeaten after ten games of the 2018 / 2019 season.

But, as we’ve learned before, Chelsea cannot afford to rest on their laurels, a failure to retain the title won in Jose Mourinho’s second spell with the club when they failed to invest heavily enough in the transfer market springs to mind.

Therefore, with the opening of the January transfer window not too far away, it remains to be seen whether Chelsea will be active in the aforementioned slot.

Today, the media have thrown the names of two players into the mixer with regards to Maurizio Sarri improving his squad.

The first piece of speculation comes courtesy of the Italian press and is being reported by the Express, it suggests that Chelsea are showing an interest in the Spanish attacking midfielder / forward Suso.

Suso, 24-years-of-age, is currently on the books of the Serie A club AC Milan.

However, he does have some experience of life in English football having spent time at Liverpool, from 2012 until 2015, but failing to make an impact and being, subsequently, moved on.

The second piece of speculation, courtesy of the news vehicle, the Chronicle, links Chelsea with the acquisition of a centre-back, with the player in question being the Newcastle United player, Jamaal Lascelles

Lascelles, an exceptional talent in a struggling Newcastle side currently managed by Rafael Benitez, is, according to our source, also on the wish-list of our London rivals, Tottenham Hotspur.

But, given the choice, which of the two would you prefer Chelsea to pursue with the most vigour?

Are you of the opinion the defence could do with strengthening if the right player became available or would you prefer to see our attacking options bolstered?

  • I would prefer Chelsea as a club, to bolster their attacking arena more, than going for a defender. After all, Christensen is not quite bad, he’s a very good defender back up for David Luiz and Antonio Rudiger…

  • To be honest, looking at the current squad and adding on the best of the loan army, we don’t need either of these players next year. But one year later, probably need to recruit for both positions. So maybe getting them in early is the way to go?
