Back in the year 2000, or 14 January to be precise, George Weah made his debut for Chelsea and became an instant hero.

If there is one way to instantly strike up a rapport with the Chelsea support it is to score the winning goal in a fixture against our London rivals, Tottenham Hotspur.

Today, over 14-years later, the Liberian who had but a fleeting career at Stamford Bridge is in the news again.

The 1995 World Footballer of the Year is running for the position of president of Liberia.

The election result is set to be announced this weekend and Weah, now 51-years-old, is the favourite to succeed Ellen Johnson Sirleaf.

Weah stood for the presidency back in 2005 but wasn`t elected, however, as a senator in his home country he is better placed this time.

Here at Vital Chelsea we wish him well in his quest.
