As he emerged from the tunnel it was interesting to see how Steve Clarke got a bigger, and better, ovation than Rafa Benitez.

But in the current climate that is hardly surprising is it.

Clarke, a Chelsea legend, may well have committed two cardinal sins in being involved with two of our biggest rivals, West Ham and Liverpool, but his feats and loyalty, as a player, after joining us from St Mirren have always endeared him to the Stamford Bridge support.

When asked about the warm reception he got, the modest Scot simply replied,

“Chelsea fans are always good to me. I`ve been back many times.”

“They remember me. I was 12 years here a player, and eight as a coach.”

Fond memories Steve, I wonder if Steve Clarke might, one day, get to sit in the home dugout again, this time as manager!
