We Are Asking The Big Question About Chelsea’s January Transfer Window

|

With the New Years’ Day Bank Holiday now out of the way, the January transfer window is now, officially, open.

For Chelsea supporters the summer transfer window was, after our one-year ban, a magical time with the club flexing their financial muscles to strengthen the squad, spending close to £200 million.

But can we expect something similar this transfer window.

It appears, according to Goal that might not be the case.

Talking to the media and discussing whether Chelsea will be buying this transfer window, Lampard had this to say:

“I’m not sure at the moment.

“I have ideas. We have a big squad and we have to see if that changes, if there are opportunities for players that aren’t playing so much.

“That’ll be a conversation between the player and myself and then we’ll see if we can strengthen in the right way. But we’re not jumping up and down to do so at the moment, my focus this year is purely on work. It’s a long month.”

So, it looks as if Lampard will be looking to sell before he can buy.

We all know the names of those who could be categorised as ‘surplus to requirements’ but the big problem is finding new clubs for them at a sensible price.

But as Frank says, it is a long month and a lot can happen.

Roman Abramovich has always been willing to invest in the team but it remains to be seen if that is the case this time around.
