The Premier League have today confirmed that they are rebranding from the 2016-17 season.

With phrases like ‘new visual identity’ and ‘bold and vibrant’, it’s another modern day move that was really unnecessary and largely pointless – but what do I know.

The Lion doesn’t quite disappear, it’s more decapitated and no longer has a body in the redesign, and maybe it’s the traditionalist in me but I preferred the old one.

The emblem replaces the existing one which has been with us since 1992 and the title sponsor is not being replaced either, with the division now known simply as the ‘Premier League’.

Managing Director Richard Masters told premierleague.com.

‘From next season we will move away from title sponsorship and the competition will be known simply as the Premier League, a decision which provided the opportunity to consider how we wanted to present ourselves as an organisation and competition. We are very pleased with the outcome: a visual identity which is relevant, modern and flexible that will help us celebrate everyone that makes the Premier League. We look forward to sharing more details of our new positioning in the coming months.’







Thrilling and clearly far more important than ticket prices or anything of any real importance obviously.
