As the title race looks set to go to the wire!
It`s the morning after the night before, the anger at which Chelsea laid-down in front of a Manchester United side who aren`t in the same class as us, still burns fiercely, as does the imprint of Jose Mourinho thumping his heart in front of the Stretford End indicating where his heart lies.
But that`s football isn`t it?
A game where you should never take anything for granted.
As it stands this Easter Monday morning, Chelsea are 4 points ahead of Tottenham with 6 games to play, a position, as several others have pointed out, many other clubs would kill for.
As the nerves start to kick in though, we`re going to take a look at the 6 games both sides still have to play.
Starting with Chelsea
Of the 6 games left, Chelsea have 4 at home and 2 away.
Southampton (h) – A tricky Tuesday night fixture, even more so considering we`ll have faced Spurs at Wembley, a matter of days before in an FA Cup semi-final, but it`s a fixture many would expect Chelsea to win, even more so if Antonio Conte gives the side the rollicking they deserve after the loss at Old Trafford.
Everton (a) – Possibly the most difficult game Chelsea have left to play, Everton are formidable at Goodison Park and we all know what Romelu Lukaku can do after the way in which he destroyed us in the FA Cup a while ago. A point could be a good result.
Middlesbrough (h) – The side from Smog City are facing relegation, they`ll be looking to keep it tight but it looks to be an ideal game for Cesc Fabregas to add to his assists total, but it could be a nervous night settled by the odd-goal.
West Brom (a) – Chelsea have had some odd results at the Hawthorns but it isn`t a place we should fear going to. Tony Pulis side will be hard to break down but Chelsea will do it, a win for the Blues.
Watford (h) – The Vicarage Road side rolled over for Spurs but I can`t believe they`ll do something similar against us. Another nervy night beckons but if we score once we`ll overwhelm them.
Sunderland (h) – The Black Cats will be relegated by the time they arrive at Stamford Bridge, but could that make them a more dangerous proposition? Keep Defoe quiet and the three points will be ours.
Assuming my mystic powers are correct, I reckon Chelsea will add another 16 points out of the 18 available.
Continuing with Tottenham:
Of the 6 games left, Spurs have 4 away and just 2 at White Hart Lane.
Crystal Palace (a) – Palace are on a fine run of form, Sam Allardyce has done exactly what it says on his tin, keeping them in the Premier League. But don`t be too surprised is they, like Watford and Bournemouth, roll over for Spurs, a Spurs win!
Arsenal (h) – A tough North London derby, not a chance. Wenger`s a fading force, his team is lightweight and will fold under the pressure Spurs will exert, another Spurs win!
West Ham (a) – A visit to the London Stadium looks a tough fixture on paper, but West Ham, without Payer are a poor side, expect the Hammers to be another side to roll over for Spurs, another Spurs win!
Manchester United (h) – This could be the one, this could be the game that sees Spurs unbeaten run end with Jose Mourinho riding into town, but Mourinho`s side will have slipped out of top-four contention and will be focussing on Europa League glory, yet another Spurs win!
Leicester City (a) – The Foxes are on a roll since Ranieri was axed, if their Champions League ambitions have been quashed by then, they`ll give Spurs a good game, but can they win? Possibly, but probably not. A win for Spurs but Leicester won`t roll over.
Hull City (a) – Could the Hull Tigers be fighting for their Premier league lives in this one? Nope! They`ll be down by then and will put up some resistance but not much. A win for Spurs.
By my calculations and with sides continuing to lie down for Spurs, the side from N17 will collect maximum points between now and the end of the season, thereby meaning that Chelsea will win the title by just 2 points or just 1 if we get beaten at Goodison Park.
Suddenly there is no margin for error.
