On Tuesday evening, up in the north-east, Newcastle United beat Preston North End 4-1.

The victory ensured that Newcastle, managed by a certain Rafael Benitez, will be playing Premier League football next season.

But, Newcastle need to make a decision about a player they have had on a season long loan deal, from Chelsea.

After season-long loan periods at Everton and Bournemouth, Christian Atsu showed glimpses of the enormous talent he possesses, as he played his part in Newcastle making an immediate return to the top-flight.

But, according to the news vehicle ESPN, ESPN, Newcastle now have a decision to make.

Our source is reporting that the season-long loan deal carries an option whereby Newcastle can make the loan move permanent.

However, if they do wish to sign the 25-year-old midfielder, they must do so within one-week of the season ending, with the fee being set at a very reasonable £6.5 million.

It remains to be seen which way this one goes, but here at Vital Chelsea we`ll endeavour to keep an eye on proceedings.

  • I doubt if they will take up the option. Atsu looks totally like a player with no confidence whatsoever and frequently takes the wrong options during a game. I don’t think we’ll recoup much in a transfer fee.

  • I’m sure they will take that option. Atsu played a vital role in the promotion and scored vital goals in the process. I will be disappointed if they don’t.

  • Already CFC have recoup most of the transfer fee paid & will make huge profit, if in doubt just wait & see on or before pre season. In today’s market £6m is peanuts compared to talents of Christian Atsu, have you seen his goal against PNE that help promote them to PL? Completely disagree with @THEBREEZE as confidence is never an issue for Atsu both in the Championship & full International duties with Ghana. This is just a case of not valuing what you have as he was voted as one of the best players of the tournament ahead of Ayew brothers Mane, Mahrez, & PEA amongst others in the last ACN in January. Newcastle could be foolish not to take up that option as many PL clubs will be looking to pay twice that let alone Sunderland &/or Boro that will have enough money looking forward to be back in the PL in the first time of asking. I watched a lot of championship games involving Newcastle, Bristol City, Huddersfield Town as well as follow highlights of our loan army a lot, & so disappointed @THEBREEZE for unfair report of a player that did so well having put in a lot of effort to get promoted scoring goals in the process HABA! If the fact in issue is that Atsu isn’t an upgrade on our current wingers, then I agree but even with that if Conte can work on Moses as RWB then who say Atsu can’t be trained to provide competition for Alonso at LWB? KTBFFH!!!

  • I heard Conte wants to take him on the summer tour of China , along with Tammy . At least we should evaluate him ourselves before making any decision .

  • If Conte takes him on the tour of China, it wouldn’t surprise me if he left him there after watching him play.
