Chelsea Ladies Champions League adventure came to an end in Lower Saxony this afternoon.

After losing the home leg of the semi-final 3-1, Emma Hayes side were always up against it in the second leg, against a Wolfsberg side who have won the competition on two previous occasions.

With the game goalless at half-time, Chelsea Ladies chances of getting back into the fixture diminished in the sixty-ninth minute when Wolfsburg opened the scoring, making it 1-0 on the day and 4-1 on aggregate.

The goal came from Pernille Harder who collected the ball on the left flank, took the opportunity to drive at the Chelsea defence before stepping inside Mille Bright and firing home into the bottom corner.

Wolfsburg made the game (and the tie) safe in the seventy-eighth minute when they made it 2-0 on the day and 5-1 on aggregate, with the second goal coming from Ewa Pajor, with the forward rising to head home a cross from Alexander Popp.

The Women’s Champions League Final will take place in Kiev on 24 May with Wolfsburg meeting Lyon who knocked out Manchester City earlier today.

We wish our conquerors well.
