And so it is official.
Next season we will have to cope without the extraordinarily talented Eden Hazard in our side.
Now there are two ways of looking at this.
The negative among us will, no doubt, point out the fact that we’ve lost the one player who, out of nothing, can turn a game on its head with his outrageous skills, or the positive among us will view it as the perfect opportunity for somebody to step into the void left by Eden and make a real name for himself.
However, despite trying to put on a brave face, this morning I do have a heavy heart.
I kind of hoped, forlornly, that Eden would remain a blue and remain part of the fixtures and furnishings at Stamford Bridge.
But that burning desire to realise his dream and play for Real Madrid proved to be too strong in the end.
As for the transfer fee received, it appears that Chelsea will receive £88 million but, with add-ons dependent on Eden’s success with Real Madrid, that fee could rise to as much as £150 million.
The only downside, apart from losing Eden, is that we are unlikely to be able to invest that money in other players for at least twelve months.
During his seven years with us, Eden left us all with some wonderful memories and I know what my favourite is, but, this is where you play your part.
