Yesterday, we set about trying to find out who the Vital Chelsea readership thought should be in Chelsea`s best starting XI. Like all good teams we started at the back.
We asked who would be your first defensive pick. We gave you the five options that Antonio Conte has week-in-week-out.

The results are in, and they`re not really that surprising, Your first pick in Chelsea`s defence was, until, the weekend, Mr ever-present?Cesar Azpilicueta, known to his teammates as ‘Dave`, he has been the constant in Antonio Conte`s defensive line, since the Italian arrived last season. Dave polled 67% of the votes cast.
In second place was this season`s star performer Andreas Christensen, the fact his ousted David Luiz from the team shows how much his time on loan in Germany improved him as a player. The Dane secured 23% of the votes cast.
Your third choice, in this first round of voting, was our captain Gary Cahill poling 6% of the votes. So, in a defensive three, those are the Vital Chelsea readerships back three.
However, in order to make it a more conclusive poll, we`ve decided to run the poll again, dropping Azpi from the voting, in order to see who your second choice would be. That will continue until we have the five in their true order, according to our readers.
Out of interest, both David Luiz and Antonio Rudiger picked up just 2% of the votes each in the opening round of voting. It will be interesting to see how the vote changes as the players are whittled down.
