When you consider that John Terry has been with Chelsea Football Club for over two decades, it`s not surprising that his announcement, on Sunday, he would be leaving Stamford Bridge come the end of the season continues to generate numerous column inches.

It appears that JT kept the news quite close to his chest when the realisation came that the board were not going to offer him a new contract with Kurt Zouma, quite probably ear-marked as JT`s natural successor, describing the news as leaving him stunned, with the young 21-year-old Frenchman remarking to the media,

“I am very surprised, I didn`t know.

“Now we have to see what John wants to do because he can play for another one or two years.

“This feels like when we lost Didier Drogba last summer. John is a huge personality at Chelsea.

“When you lose these kind of players, you have to replace them – but I don`t know how John can be replaced.

“For me he can play many more times. He is still at the top level.

“He has been playing very well since I arrived at Chelsea. He can continue for sure.”

Some kind words there from a star of the future who has, quite obviously, been learning from JT during his time at the club.
