The crushing defeat, inflicted by Bayern Munich in midweek in the Champions League, highlighted just how far Chelsea have fallen when it comes to matching the best in Europe.
It’s fair to say that it’s not a gap but more a chasm and, come the summer, if Chelsea have any thoughts about remaining one of the top clubs in Europe then drastic action will have to be taken.
In the last twenty-four hours, speculation has emerged that, as highlighted by The Sun, Frank Lampard, a serial winner, has identified just who needs to be moved out not only to make some room in the squad for some world-class replacements but also to generate additional funds to reinvigorate the squad.
Our referenced source has implied that Lampard, as he seeks to create a Chelsea squad with his own stamp on it, is looking to get rid of:
• Kepa Arrizabalaga
• Ross Barkley
• Jorginho
• Kurt Zouma
• Willian
• Pedro
and
• Marcos Alonso
Now whether Chelsea can find buyers for all seven of those named, this summer, remains to be seen.
