Does tonight represent a unique opportunity?
Although our hopes of back-to-back Champions League wins went up in a huge puff of smoke, competing in the Europa League does give us a wonderful opportunity of joining Europe`s elite, namely those clubs that have won every European competition.
It is something that Petr Cech has picked up on ahead of our fixture in Prague, this evening, commenting in the media,
“It`s not great that we`re playing in the Europa League because we wanted to be in the last 16 of the Champions League.”
“I was watching the Celtic v Juventus game the other night and we should be there. But we`re not and that is down to our own mistakes.”
“But I`ve never played in the Europa League or the UEFA Cup and it`s an interesting experience.”
“People will say it`s not a great competition but if we have to play in it, I want to win it.”
“It`s the chance to win a competition that the club has never won.”
“And if we can win the Europa League it means we can play in the Super Cup again next season and become one of the few clubs club sin Europe to have won every competition.”
“It`s a chance to make history even if it`s not the way we might have wanted.”
Indeed it is, so let`s go for it shall we!
